Refocusing for 2018 - Update
MakePort Innovation Hub
Portarlington Enterprise Centre is currently in the process of developing a state of the Art Technology and Design hub, with a fully equipped FabLab, Training Rooms, and contemporary Hot-Desking facilities. We are currently on schedule to open the Innovation Hub in Quarter 2 of this year.
The digital FabLab will create projects and products using IT skills and the most up to date digital fabrication equipment, in addition to offering opportunities to SME’s by providing access to the most modern digital fabrication machinery.
The FabLab will also assist with the training and upskilling of young and talented individuals, whose abilities mainstream education has not yet tapped into, by both utilising and improving their particular skill sets. This project is also a partnership with the local Coder Dojo Club (volunteers), local schools and groups, and Carlow IT.
There will be 3 training rooms in our new facility, with the option of multiple room layouts including classroom, O-shape, U shape, and traditional boardroom style, depending on demand. The rooms can be rented on either an hourly, half day, full day, or weekly basis. For larger groups our conference room is also available and may be more suitable.
Training rooms will be equipped with dedicated high speed wireless internet, a large interactive whiteboard or a projector, glass magnetic whiteboards, flip chart easels, and stationery.
Hot-desking / Co-working
This facility will equip our clientele with a contemporary and comfortable open plan office environment at a fraction of the usual expense; ideal for start-ups and small companies on a limited budget. It will provide a professional environment for commuters looking to adopt more flexible working patterns, which will enable them to improve work/life balance, whilst also assisting larger companies reduce their employer costs.
Additionally we will have the option of a designated / fixed office space.
All packages on offer will include a comfortable and professional space in which to work, business postal address, high speed wireless broadband, unlimited access to work area between business hours, lockable storage facilities, access to coffee dock, and a private soundproof phone booth for that all important call. Printing and photocopying facilities will also be available on site.
This project aims to create a long-term learning culture which will help more people to become involved and to grow their expertise, and is made possible by Laois County Council working in conjunction with Laois Partnership and Laois LEO on a multi-disciplinary, inter-agency basis using the partnership approach.
