Portarlington is a town that is, uniquely, situated in both Co. Laois and Co. Offaly in the midlands of Ireland. The River Barrow flows through the town and acts as an approximate border between these two counties. It is just an hour from Dublin by car and slightly less by rail. In fact, such is its central and accessible location, every other county within the Republic of Ireland is never further than three hours away! Portarlington is home to the country's busiest rail hub - it is serviced directly by frequent trains to and from Dublin in the east, Cork in the south and Galway in the west and offers rail links to all parts of Ireland. Furthermore, the town is just four miles from the country's main road network, the N7/M7 (Dublin to Cork) and the N8/M8 (Dublin to Limerick).
